College Profile

Charlton College is a Preparatory to Yr 12 College formed by the merger of Secondary and Primary schools at the beginning of  1995.  It commenced the 1997 school year on dual campuses - the P to 12 campus catering to Years Prep to 12 and the North Central Cluster Centre campus to deliver a broad range of technology and other subjects to the students of Charlton and secondary colleges of the North Central Schools' Cluster.

 

The College curriculum offerings are expanded by cooperation between schools through video conferencing links, technology and other provision through the North Central Cluster Centre and to a lesser extent, staff and student travel between Cluster Schools.

 

Charlton College is currently undergoing curriculum development in a number of areas including: ‘Early Years’ literacy and numeracy programming in the junior school; curriculum and structural revision in the teaching of the Middle Years of Schooling (Yrs 5 to 8); a substantial increase in VCE subject offerings including accelerated access; VET programs resulting in VCE and TAFE qualifications in Hospitality, Information Technology, Engineering, Motor Mechanics, Electronics, Music and Agriculture.

 

The learning programs of all students is complemented by advanced Information Technology Facilities, use of which is integrated into most learning areas (most computers in the College directly access the internet and CD ROM library); the use of the Cluster Centre for Technology provision; the modern library which provides excellent literature, video and computer CD resources; and the community stadium.

 The campuses of Charlton College are situated in extensive, well maintained grounds. Recent structural & landscaping improvements have been made throughout the College buildings and grounds and extensive tree planting is enhancing the play areas and beginning to provide a pleasant environment and shade for our students.

 

COLLEGE GOALS

 

1.         To provide a broad sequential curriculum program for the 8 Key Learning Areas from Prep to Year 12. 

2.         To ensure a teaching and learning program which is challenging and appropriate to the needs of all students. 

3.         To provide strands of Technology, Arts and other Key Learning Areas to members of the North Central Schools' Cluster.

4.         To provide Pre Driver Education to students of the North Central Cluster schools and beyond.

5.         To provide resources which enhance curriculum delivery and facilitates the achievement of the College's established goals and priorities. 

6.         To ensure efficient and effective decision making, communication and College operation. 

7.         To maintain and further develop teacher effectiveness and staff performance. 

8.         To develop a College community that cares for each student in a safe, friendly, attractive and positive learning environment. 

9.         To improve College buildings, classrooms and grounds so that student learning takes place in a more attractive, functional and safe environment. 

10.       To continue the development of whole College and community consultation and participation. 

11.       To ensure that each student's progress is continuously monitored, evaluated and reported to parents. 

12        To develop and maintain monitoring and public reporting procedures.
